As title suggests your typical door knob is 1 3/4 -2 inches from the side of the door. Mine is a large oak door that’s 5 inches from the edge. Been repairing the one that’s been on the door since I lived here 20 year’s. House was built in 1896. Might be the original door. The latch itself was an antique and modern door knobs needed fabrication to work. This peice let’s me fit modern design antique and functional looking knobs making my house much more secure. The way I had it the lock on a bedroom door was far superior. Should have done it long ago. Much better door closing with a click of wow thats a lock.
