These are nearly a 5 star product.I’m an engineer, so I tend to be a bit conservative and thorough. I am also a ham radio operator.This is a quality product, no question. Is it a kids’ “toy” walkie? I don’t think so, it goes a bit beyond what most “kids” would be able to use.The manuals mention “software” repeatedly, sounds like there should be an add-on product, but really, they mean the radio can be programmed via channel, button press, and power-on sequences.A nice feature – these are easy to use, my wife doesn’t need to learn about tones, frequencies, encoding; the switches are solid and won’t change on accident.Why 4-stars? They are advertised as designed for children, really they are more sophisticated, beyond the scope of most walkie talkies for children.
