A repair shop will charge upwards of $75 to tune up a weed trimmer…more if they replace the carburetor. Guess which kits they use? Guess how I know?? (I’m not a mechanic, but I’ve had equipment serviced at shops and saw the kits used). ?For less than $15-20, you get everything for a full tune-up: carburetor, gasket, fuel filter, fuel line, air filter and a carburetor fuel-adjustment tool. Junk the spark plug and get a better one.My Husqvarna took an 8mm socket to remove 2 bolts to pull off the carburetor cover. The most challenging aspect is removing and re-installing the fuel line (thanks, ethanol!), but can be done easily with 45-degree long nose pliers like thesePerformance Tool W30772 11-Inch Long Reach 45-Degree Bent Long Nose Pliers https://a.co/d/eNYOKxSso go ahead and change that fuel line along with the filter. There are numerous tutorials online, but this tool makes it a LOT easier. Cut the tubing at a long shallow angle on the tip for threading into the feeder holes in the gas tank. Pulling is much, much easier from the inside of the fuel tank than pushing- hence the $8 for the long reach pliers. Remember which line ties in *where* (the return line typically feeds in closest to the gas cap). After stabbing the fuel filter, fish it back down at the bottom back of the gas tank. The gasket is just adequate thickness. Be sure that the vent hole on the carburetor corresponds with the gasket hole (see images). When adjusting the carburetor fuel mixture, mark the tool so you can keep track of your adjustments (I place a piece of blue tape on the handle for my ’12 o’clock’ position).Turn both fuel adjustment screws clockwise until seated, then turn the right screw (the ‘Hi’ adjustment screw) counterclockwise 1 1/2 turns. This is the fuel adjuster for full-throttle and will be adjusted more finely later.Turn the ‘Lo’ adjustment screw ( the left screw) 1 full turn counterclockwise. This will get you in the ballpark. You may have to fight the throttle to keep the engine running when you crank it up, but the ‘Lo’ mixture can’t be fully adjusted until the engine heats up. At that point, a fine nudge one way or the other can dial it in. At idle, the trimmer head should just come to a stop. Once the idle is set, throttle up the engine and make small adjustments as needed to the ‘Hi’ mixer screw. My spark plug was an off brand Eco variant. I installed an NGK and the gap needed no adjustment. One star removed- but overall, though, a decent value.
